Eighty-four existing laws, particularly those related to regional issues, bring disadvantages to regions, a member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) says.
I Wayan Sudirta, head of the Council’s Law Drafting Committee, said Friday that among the disadvantageous laws was the Law No.4/2009 on Mineral and Coal Mining, which was not meant to be implemented in all areas of the country. It cannot be implemented in Bangka Belitung province, for example, therefore the province’s interests are not accommodated, he said, as reported by kompas.com.
Other disadvantageous laws include Law No.39/2009 on Special Economic Zones, Law No. 28/2009 on Regional Tax and Retribution, Law No. 9/2009 on Education Legal Entity, Law No. 20/2008 on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Law No.27/2007 on the Management of Coastal Areas and Small Islands and Law No.24/2007 on Disaster Management.
Sudirta suggested that the House of Representatives involve the Council in future law drafting so that the Council could exercise its check-and-balance functions.
